CaseStudies Resin Floor Covering for Orkney Production Facility

Resin Floor Covering for Orkney Production Facility

The Challenge

When a water testing facility on the island of Flotta in the Orkney Islands required its production floor to be refurbished, careful planning was essential from the outset. Due to the site's remote location, both labour and materials needed to be transported from the mainland, meaning any delays or specification changes could have a significant impact on programme times and project costs. With limited opportunities to rectify issues once work had commenced, every stage of the installation had to be carefully considered. Surface preparation, product selection and application methods all needed to provide a reliable, long-lasting flooring solution capable of performing within a busy production environment while avoiding unnecessary disruption.

The Solution

Working closely with the appointed contractor, Resin Building Products supplied a flooring specification comprising Resbuild WB Primer and Resbuild Ultracoat, incorporating an emery aggregate to provide enhanced toughness and slip resistance. The system was selected to create a durable resin floor capable of withstanding the operational demands of the facility while providing a safe, clean and professional working environment. The completed installation delivered excellent chemical resistance together with a hard-wearing, easy-to-maintain finish suited to everyday production activities. Despite the logistical challenges associated with the project's remote location, the flooring was completed on schedule, providing the client with a resilient resin floor covering that met the original performance requirements and continues to support the day-to-day operation of the facility.
